Bad news for Fish

A bit harsh isn't it, really.

Asking a fish to promote a fishing competition. I mean I know I am a predator fish and all that but still, us fish need to stick together sometimes.

Nevertheless, Max was very firm about this, he's very fond of fish and made an unspeakable threat of what he would do if I failed to mention it.

So roll up! Fishing Competition ahoy! Saturday 12th September (yes that's in about 2 weeks). A fun day out for all the family, unless you happen to be a fish in which case a different destination for the day might prove to be a wise choice.

There are 4 trophies, all for heaviest weight of fish caught; sniff; excuse me for a moment, so many sad memories of last year...

…sorry yes there are 4 trophies - men's, ladies', junior (under 17) and minnows (under 12). Registration is at 9:00 and the fishing starts at 10:00. Weigh in is at 16:00 and food is available at the Waveney Inn (open all day).

Application form and rules are here

Flee now my friends! Swim for your lives!

August, it's silly season

The things you see when you're a fishy statue. From my vantage point at the entrance to the marina, imagine my surprise to see this hire boat nestled in the reeds.

Nice looking spot for a picnic? Suddenly needed the toilet? Wife getting amorous with the helm? You decide.

And when I was looking the other way a couple of weeks ago I couldn't believe my eyes. You probably saw this on the news, but if not it's worth a look. What a nutcase, he is so lucky not to have been turned into a twitburger. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m3Po3nW1o4.

That's it from your fishy river spotter, but don't forget to name that duck.

A duck called what?

Duck!

Look, I've got a new playmate! He's part of the Beccles Giant Duck Art Trail, which features 20 giant ducks in and around Beccles. My new friend was dressed by our very own resident artist & maintenance manager, Richard Saunders. I would describe the river scene for you but far better for you to come and see for yourself!

The big problem is the duck is as-yet nameless. So, we have a contest folks! Post your ducky ideas on my blog, or email to eddie@afishcallededdie.com. The supplier of the best name, in the opinion of our expert panel of anas-nomenclature judges, will receive a gift pack of my very own beer. Or a Fish Called Eddie shirt if you're too young for one of those.

Get thinking!

A Sail By My Tail

If my information is true, I will have the pleasure of the company of the Wherry Hathor a couple of times next week. She will be moored alongside my tail on Monday evening (17th August) before whizzing off to Beccles, then she'll be back again the following Monday evening (24th).

The Trust welcome viewings and donations, so please come and give her a look - this is her last voyage for some years, as she is undergoing extensive refurbishment work after this tour. So don't miss this chance of having a sail on a piece of history, or at least having a quick gander.

Full details are on the Wherry Yacht Charter's home page.

That's the most sensible I've been in a long time. Normal service to be resumed shortly.
